Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *kwēdą ‎(“manure; filth”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷweh₁dʰ- ‎(“excrement”)^[1]. Akin to Old Frisian quād ‎(“bad, evil”), Dutch kwaad ‎(“evil, bad”), Old High German quāt ‎(“bad”) (German Kot ‎(“excrement”).
