Etymology
From Old Norsedreyri, from Proto-Germanic*drauzijô. Cognate with Old Saxon drōr, Old High German trōr and Old English dreor. The historical sense is of something which ‘falls’: the Germanic base is also the source of Old English drēosan(“fall”).
