A derivative of dredh, with -izë suffix (cf. ndrizë). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian*dri-(dźiā), from Proto-Indo-European*derǵʰ-(“to hold, to be firm”). Collective with the suffix -zë. Cognate to Sanskrit दृंहति(dṛ́ṃhati, “he makes firm”), Slavic *dьržati(“to hold”).
