Either an onomatopoeia[1] or from Proto-Albanian *dudā, from Proto-Indo-European *dheu ‎(“to reel, dissipate, blow”). Compare Old Frisian dud ‎(“anesthetization”), Old Norse doðna ‎(“become insensitive”), Old English dydrian ‎(“deceive”), dydring ‎(“yolk”).
