1. (poetic) sleep (the act of sleeping)

   saldu dusu!‎ ― sleep well! (lit. sweet sleep)

   ar gaiļa dziesmu piecēlos no dusas‎ ― with the cock's song (= at cockcrow) I woke up from sleep

   jutos gurdens un gāju taisni klētiņā uz dusu‎ ― I felt weary and went directly to the little barn to sleep

2. (poetic) rest, piece

   mūsu paaudze dusas nezināja‎ ― our generation knew no rest

   lieli tauriņi, kā dusas meklēdami, laižas pa stiebriem un grīšļiem‎ ― large butterflies, as if looking for rest, fly through grass stalks and sedge leaves

3. (poetic, figuratively) death

   mūža dusa‎ ― eternal sleep (= death)

   no beigu dusas nevar modināt!‎ ― (one) cannot wake up (someone) from the final sleep (= death)
