Either 1) A compound of privative e- + gjërsoup (cf. egjëll, esëll), the second element to be compared with Lithuanian sóra(“millet”), thus, the result meaning is not millet > wild grass, or 2) a singularized plural of egër 'wild', or of an unattested *agër, the latter being identical with Ancient Greek ἀγρός(agrós, “field”) and άγριος(ágrios) 'wild, lit. belonging to the field'.
