factorij f (plural factorijen, diminutive factorijtje n)
- (historical) Tradepost abroad in the 16th century. During the reign of the V.O.C. these tradeposts were under the control of the V.O.C. and not of the nation they were in. The tradeposts often consisted of warehouses (and processing facilities compare factory) and houses, protected by a fort.
