Cognate with Old High German helid (German Held), Old Saxon helid, Dutch held, West Frisian held, Old Norse halr, hǫlðr (Norwegian hold). The Indo-European root is also the source of Ancient Greek κελωρ ‎(kelōr), Tocharian B kālyśke ‎(“boy”).
