From Proto-Germanic *hūzijō ‎(“hire”), from Proto-Indo-European *kūs- ‎(“price, hire”). Cognate with Old Frisian hēre ‎(“hire”), Old English hȳr ‎(“hire, rent”), Middle High German behūren ‎(“to acquire by purchase or lease”).
