From Latin historia, from Ancient Greek ἱστορία ‎(historía, “learning through research, narration of what is learned”), from ἱστορέω ‎(historéō, “to learn through research, to inquire”), from ἵστωρ ‎(hístōr, “the one who knows, the expert, the judge”).
