Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *kuḱis ‎(“(female) pubic hair; ****”). Cognate with Persian کس ‎(kos, “****”) and Latvian kūsis ‎(“public hair, ****”). Possibly an euphemism from the older meaning "belly", preserved in Sanskrit कुक्षि ‎(****ṣí, “belly”).
