Etymology

Uncertain. Either a compound of krah + -inë (as in luginë 'valley', kodrinë 'hill', ballinë 'front cover' etc.), contaminated with Serbo-Croatian krȁjina/кра̏јина (cf. gatuaj), from Common Slavic *krajina ‎(“region”) or a South Slavic borrowing.
