From Proto-Albanian *lentā, from Proto-Indo-European *lent-. Compare Old High German linta ‎(“linden”), Lithuanian lentà ‎(“board”), Proto-Slavic *lǫtъ 'bast'. Possibly connected with lëndinë 'heath, pasture'.
