Usage notes

In US English, the concept is usually expressed using terms such as "enroll", "admit", "accept", "get in". Discussions about the total number of students that can be admitted also use terms such as "number of college students", "enrollment", and sometimes "spots" (only in the plural). In other words, the term "place" is sometimes used for an individual student but even less often for the abstract concept of the total number of students that can be admitted, mainly due to such quotas (and thus the concept) being nonexistent or less fixed than in the UK.

"Degree place" is only a UK term.
