Borrowing from Ottoman Turkish پاشا (pāšā) (Turkish paşa); this either from Persian پادشاه (pādšāh, “padishah, king”),[1] or from [script needed] (baş, “head”),[2] or from [script needed] (beşe, “boy, prince”), this in turn from Persian بچّه (bačče).[3]
