Usage notes
- Nowadays mostly used in the phrase "tulta ja tappuraa" (fire and tappura), which signifies something explosive; or figuratively something passionate, emotional or powerful. This expression propably originates from the easy flammability of the tangled, short waste fibres.
- Also used in the translation of the Bible in the term orjantappurakruunu (crown of thorns) and for any of the several thorny shrubs (orjantappura).
