Etymology

From an earlier *tweintug, from Proto-Germanic *twai tigiwiz, *twaintigaz. Compare Old Saxon, Old Frisian, and Old English twentig, Old Norse tuttugu. Corresponds to a compound of zwein- from zwēne and -zug.
