1. (transitive) to lose (to cause something to cease to be in one's possession or capability)

   Ако изгубиш тази десет паундова банкнота, ще съжаляваш. - If you lose that ten pound note, you'll be sorry.

   Той изгуби слуха си при експлозията. - He lost his hearing in the explosion.

   Тя изгуби поста си, когато компанията беше превзета. - She lost her position when the company was taken over.

2. (transitive, intransitive) to lose (to have less)

   Изгубих уважението на колегите си. - I lost the respect of my colleagues.

   Ако участваш в този филм, ще изгубиш от популярността си. - If you play in that film, you'll lose some of your popularity.

3. (transitive) to lose (to fail to win a game)

   Изгубихме мача. - We lost the match.

4. (intransitive) to lose (to fail to be the winner)

   - Този път спечели ли? - Did you win this time?

   - Не, пак изгубих. - No, I lost again.

5. (transitive) to waste

   Изгуби ми времето. - You wasted my time.

6. (transitive) to lose (to have a relative or friend die)

   Тя изгуби всичките си синове във войната. - She lost all her sons in the war.

7. (transitive) to lose (to be unable to follow or trace somebody or something any longer)

   Полицаят изгуби крадеца, когото гонеше. - The policeman lost the robber he was chasing.
