From Proto-Indo-European*h₂ew-m-, a derivation of *h₂ew-(“to see, perceive”). Cognate with Lithuanian aumuõ(“mind”) and indirectly Ancient Greek αἰσθάνομαι(aisthánomai, “to perceive”), Sanskrit आविस्(āvís, “openly, manifestly, evidently”), Latin audiō, and Hittite 𒌋𒀪𒄭(u-uḫ-ḫi, “I see”).
