From Proto-Iranian [Term?] (compare Kurdish چوار ‎(çwar, çiwar), Ossetian цыппар ‎(cyppar), Avestan [script needed] ‎(čaθwar)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian [Term?] (compare Sanskrit चतुर् ‎(catur)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kʷetwóres (compare Armenian չորս ‎(čʿors), Lithuanian keturi, Latin quattuor, English four).
