Old Armenian

Etymology

From Iranian *Raxsā- ‎(“swift-flowing”) from *ra(n)g- ‎(“to move swiftly”); compare Sanskrit रङ्घते ‎(raṅghate, “to hasten, run”). Adopted by Armenians in the 7–6th century BC, during intensive contacts with the Median Empire. Old Georgian რახსი ‎(raxsi) and Ancient Greek Ἀράξης ‎(Aráxēs) are from Iranian as well.
