From Proto-Indo-European *sHdʰ-yo-, *seh₂dʰ-yo- ‎(“successful”). Cognates include Sanskrit साध्य ‎(sādhyá), साधु ‎(sādhú, “straight, right”), Avestan [script needed] ‎(hādrōyā, “desire to achieve the goal”).
