According to Ačaṙean, perhaps a Northeast Caucasian borrowing: compare Archi гьоти (hoti, grass), Andi кӏвордо (ḳʷordo, grass), Rutul хьытӏ (xɨṭ, barley), Tsakhur хьытӏа (xɨṭa, barley), Udi ход (χod, tree), Avar гъветӏ (ġweṭ, tree).
