According to J̌ahukyan, from Iranian *karišn or *kaδišn, composed of the Iranian etymon of Old Armenian կար ‎(kar, “force, power”) and the suffix -išn (compare Middle Persian 𐭱𐭭 ‎(-išn), Persian ش ‎(-eš)).
