From Middle Iranian. Compare Middle Persian klp ‎(kirb, “body, form”). Through Proto-Indo-European the Middle Persian word is connected with Sanskrit कृप् ‎(kṛp, “beautiful appearance”), Latin corpus ‎(“body”) and Old Armenian որովայն ‎(orovayn, “belly”).
