Etymology

The stem is մանու- (manu-), inherited from Proto-Indo-European *mn̥(H)u-, from *men- (small), whence also մանուկ (manuk). Cognate with Ancient Greek (Hesychius) μάνυ (mánu, small), Old Irish menb (small, tiny) and Sanskrit मनाक् (manāk, a little).
