An inner-Armenian formation based on միս (mis) or from earlier n-stem *մսանն (*msann) (compare plural մսանունք (msanunkʿ)), from Proto-Indo-European *mē(m)s-n- (compare Ancient Greek μῆνιγξ (mêninx)), from *mḗms (meat), whence միս (mis).
