Old Armenian

Etymology

Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *porḱos (fishing), with only surviving cognate being Ancient Greek πόρκος (pórkos, fishing net). The sense of “fishing” must have become more general in Armenian. Dialectal հորս (hors) form still preserves the initial *p-.
