Usage notes

  • In the past, the 古琴 was referred to only as (qín), but it now has the prefix 古- (ancient) to distinguish it from other instruments which also use the word (qín). The 古琴 may be referred to as (qín) after the first mention of 古琴.
  • It is sometimes confused with the guzheng (古箏古筝) which is a different stringed instrument.
