From the Proto-Indo-European plural accusative case ending *-Vns, *-(C)n̥s. Compare dialectal Ancient Greek λύκονς (lúkons, wolves), Gothic 𐌳𐌰𐌲𐌰-𐌽𐍃 (daga-ns, days).
