- A taxonomic family within the order Galliformes – various terrestrial, ground-living birds: the pheasants, partridges, junglefowl (including the chicken), Old World quail, francolins, monals and peafowl.
Usage notes
- Subfamilies Meleagridinae and Tetraoninae are sometimes classified as distinct families: Meleagrididae and Tetraonidae. The family Numididae (guineafowls) has also sometimes been included as a subfamily.
