hakëll m
From earlier *(s)kaklo, either from Proto-Indo-European *kagʰlos (“pebble”), or from a Proto-Indo-European *ḱoḱló-, a reduplication of Proto-Indo-European *ḱel- (“cold”). Cognate with Lithuanian šešėlis (“shade, shadow”), Ancient Greek κάχληξ (kákhlēx, “pebble”), Sanskrit शिशिर (śíśira, “cool, cold”) and Old English hæġl, hæġel 'hail'.
