Either from Vulgar Latin*and(i)tāre, from *ambitāre, frequentative of Latinambīre or aditāre, frequentative of adīre, or alternatively possibly from *amnāre, from dissimilation of earlier *amlāre, a proto-Romance or Vulgar Latin variant of ambulāre, or from Vulgar Latin adnāre.
