1. (generally used only in its active participial form paradis) to get used to something, to become accustomed to something (to be such that a certain action or activity has become normal, habitual)

   parast agri celties‎ ― to be used to getting up early

   viņš bija paradis reizēm arī apsvērt un runāt lēnā garā‎ ― he was used to often judge and speak slowly

   es neesmu paradusi saņemt gan pelnītus, gan nepelnītus pārmetumus‎ ― I am not in the habit of accepting either deserved or undeserved criticism

   krusttēvs bija paradis visus likteņa negaidītos un nepareizos pavērsienus sagaidīt ar cieņu un pilnīgu mieru‎ ― (my) uncle was accustomed to accepting all of fate's expected or unexpected developments with respect and complete peace of mind
