From Proto-Albanian*tšel-, from Proto-Indo-European*kwel- 'to turn, twist'. Cognate to Ancient Greek πέλω(pélō, “to be in motion”), Tocharian A köllāš(“bring”), preterit śël, Old Norse hvel(“wheel”). Somehow, the archaic form has generated Arbëresh Albanian qellënj with an apparently conservative q-.
