From Proto-Finnic *tuli, From Proto-Uralic *tule. Exact counterparts in Karelian, Veps, Votic and Estonian languages; others include Livonian tu'l´, Northern Sami dolla, and Moksha тол (tol). Tuli has previously been typical of Eastern dialects, whereas western dialects used valkea.[1]

  • Cognates are also present in the Sami languages, see Northern Sami dolla, Skolt Sami toll, and Ter Sami toll.
