Declension

Old Armenian

Etymology

From Hurrian [script needed] (al(l)a(e)ḫḫe/inne-, keeper of that which pertains to the lord of the house/family), composed of *all-ae (lady or lord (of the house)), from the root *all- (to be lord of, to rule), + [script needed] (-ḫḫe, possessive adjective suffix) + [script needed] (-(i)nne, suffix of names of professions and similar). The borrowing may be from an Urartian cognate. Also from Hurrian are Akkadian [script needed] (ala(ḫ)ḫinnu, a kind of serving girl of the temple personnel) and Aramaic [script needed] (ləḥentā, serving girl, concubine). See also աղխ (ałx).
