Etymology

Ačaṙyan leaves the origin open. According to J̌ahukyan, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *al- (to wander, roam), on which see աղամող (ałamoł). Among the cognates he compare especially Ancient Greek ἀλάτεια (aláteia, wandering, roaming).
