Probably of Proto-Indo-European origin and cognate with Ancient Greek ἅπτω (háptō), ἁφή (haphḗ). Perhaps also cognate with Sanskrit अप्सस् (apsas, breast, forehead, front side), Tocharian A āpsā (minor limbs) and Hittite [script needed] (ḫappeššar-, limb, part of the body). See also հափափեմ (hapʿapʿem).
