Cognates include Lithuanian burnà ‎(“mouth”), Ancient Greek φάρυγξ ‎(phárunx, “throat”), Latin frūmen ‎(“larynx, throat”), Old Norse barki ‎(“throat, windpipe”), Bulgarian бърна ‎(bǎrna, “lip”). Related to բահ ‎(bah, “spade, shovel”) and բիր ‎(bir, “club, cudgel”).
