Etymology

The origin is uncertain. Perhaps a Wanderwort related to English dagger. Alternatively, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰāg-u- and cognate with Ancient Greek θήγω (thḗgō, to sharpen, whet). The by-form դակուր (dakur) may have arisen due to influence of սակուր (sakur)
