ողջ
ողջ
Armenian
Adjective
ողջ • (ołǰ)
Synonyms
Old Armenian
Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *olyo-. Cognates include Old Irish uile, Welsh holl and Proto-Germanic *allaz, *ala-.
Alternatively, from Proto-Indo-European *solw-yo-, from, *solh₂- (“whole”).
A contamination of both is possible.
For the semantic correspondence “being alive” : “wholeness” compare Turkish sağ (“alive; whole”).
Urartian [script needed] (ulguše, “health, well being, the being alive”) may be borrowed from Proto-Armenian.
