From Proto-Indo-Iranian *yugám (compare Avestan 𐬫𐬎𐬎𐬀 ‎(yuua), Persian یوغ ‎(ǰuɣ)), from Proto-Indo-European *yugóm (compare Ancient Greek ζυγόν ‎(zugón), Latvian jūgs, Old Church Slavonic иго ‎(igo), Latin iugum, Old English ġeoc (English yoke)).
