From Proto-Indo-Iranian *yugám (compare Avestan 𐬫𐬎𐬎𐬀 (yuua), Persian یوغ (ǰuɣ)), from Proto-Indo-European *yugóm (compare Ancient Greek ζυγόν (zugón), Latvian jūgs, Old Church Slavonic иго (igo), Latin iugum, Old English ġeoc (English yoke)).
