Borrowing from French caïque, from Italian caicco, from Ottoman Turkish قایق ‎(kayık),[1][2] from Old Turkic kayguk, from Proto-Turkic *K(i)aj-guk ‎(“boat, oar”). Cognate with modern Turkish kayık.
