The act of transposing, or the state of being transposed.
Specifically: –
(a)
(Alg.)
The bringing of any term of an equation from one side over to the other without destroying the equation.
(b)
(Gram.)
A change of the natural order of words in a sentence; as, the Latin and Greek languages admit transposition, without inconvenience, to a much greater extent than the English.
(c)
(Mus.)
A change of a composition into another key.

A changing of the places of things and putting each in the place before occupied by the other; as the transposition of words in a sentence.

The state of being reciprocally changed in place.
3.
In algebra, the bringing of any term of an equation to the other side.
4.
In grammar, a change of the natural order of words in a sentence. The Latin and Greek languages admit transposition without inconvenience, to a much greater extent than the English.
5.
In music, a change in the composition, either in the transcript or the performance, by which the whole is removed into another key.
