Etymology
Cognate to Bislama bensin (“petrol”) (a term which entered Bislama pre-1885). According to Terry Crowley, the term derives either from German Benzin, or from English benzene, as the meaning of that term was not as narrow or technical in the nineteenth century as it is today.[1]
