first among equals ‎(plural firsts among equals)

1. (idiomatic) A person or position that is formally equivalent to others in a group, but is superior in some attribute.
2. (Britain, politics) In the British and other parliamentary systems, a term used to describe the relationship of the prime minister to the other members of the cabinet.
