Etymology

From the older form lecconerìa, either from leccare ‎(“lick”, verb), or from Old High German lecchari or lecchōn, from Ancient Greek λιχνεία ‎(likhneía, “gluttony; greed”). Cognate with Latin lingō ‎(“lick”, verb) and Ancient Greek λείχω ‎(leíkhō, “lick up”).
