1. Used to indicate randomness, especially in action:
   1. all over the place (inconsistent; lacking a clear pattern; with a large amount of variation)

   2. whatever, whenever, wherever etc.

      He ate whatever he happened to get.

      The working hours were not for him - he appearared at the office whenever he pleased.
