Variant of ndjerë, from Proto-Albanian*(a)jeri, identical to Greek ἦρι(ἦri, “early”), further related to Gothic 𐌰𐌹𐍂(air), Old Norse ár), and Avestan [script needed](ayar, “day”)[1].
